PODCAST EPISODE 23: JONATHAN LEGGE | CO-FOUNDER & CEO, &OPEN

The gift of personalized caring is an authentic and effective way to build and solidify relationships, and a gifting strategy is ever more important in a remote work environment. Yet choosing a bespoke gift that speaks to a client’s personal likes and hobbies takes time and knowledge; and this need is what inspired Jonathan Legge, Co-Founder and CEO of &Open, to start a company that is a self-described “happiness platform” that designs, delivers and drives loyalty.

Jonathan shares how they’ve grown organically and with intention, working early on with such large organizations as AirBnb, WeWork and Turo, scaling their team slowly and methodically; and purposely not accepting any VC funding.

Here are my three big takeaways from the conversation:

  1. They’ve purposely established their foundation over the last couple of years before entering into a scaling phase.

  2. Bootstrapping your startup takes patience, diligence, and a hyperfocus on your numbers.

  3. Know when it’s time to get out of your own way and allow your people to do the work they do best.
