Success and growth isn’t always a straight line – sometimes it requires scaling back so an organization can grow further, as PJ Bouten, Co-Founder and CEO of Showpad, learned recently. Showpad experienced tremendous growth the last several years but suddenly PJ and his Co-Founder and President, Louis Jonckheere found themselves faced with difficult decisions as Covid-19 hit. In order to survive and thrive, they needed to layoff staff, which they handled with compassion, empathy, and support. PJ talks about the importance of finding the right co-founder and the need to invest in your talent.
Here are my four big takeaways from the conversation:
As an organization scales and grows, you must invest in your managers.
Surround yourself with people who align on your core values and ethics, but also aren’t afraid to challenge your ideas.
In order to have happy customers, you must put your employees first, because you need happy employees to have a happy customer experience.
Focus on solving a problem with your business that will really make a difference.
