Success and growth isn’t always a straight line – sometimes it requires scaling back so an organization can grow further, as PJ Bouten, Co-Founder and CEO of Showpad, learned recently. Showpad experienced tremendous growth the last several years but suddenly PJ and his Co-Founder and President, Louis Jonckheere found themselves faced with difficult decisions as Covid-19 hit. In order to survive and thrive, they needed to layoff staff, which they handled with compassion, empathy, and support. PJ talks about the importance of finding the right co-founder and the need to invest in your talent.
Here are my four big takeaways from the conversation:
- As an organization scales and grows, you must invest in your managers.
- Surround yourself with people who align on your core values and ethics, but also aren’t afraid to challenge your ideas.
- In order to have happy customers, you must put your employees first, because you need happy employees to have a happy customer experience.
- Focus on solving a problem with your business that will really make a difference.
